What bgdb.app is
bgdb.app is a hobby project for tracking your board game collection and play history. It's free to use, has no ads, and doesn't sell anything — including your data.
What we collect
- Account details: your username, email address, and optionally your name. Your password is stored hashed — we can't read it.
- Your collection and plays: the games you add, statuses, ratings, notes, and play logs you record.
- BGG credentials (optional): if you connect a BoardGameGeek account, we store your BGG username. If you provide your BGG password to sync a private collection, it's stored encrypted and used only to talk to BGG on your behalf.
We don't use analytics or tracking scripts. The only cookies are the ones needed to keep you logged in and protect forms (session and CSRF cookies).
How your data is used
- To run your account — verification and password-reset emails only, never marketing.
- To sync game data and play logs with BoardGameGeek when you ask (and nightly, if you've connected a BGG account).
Collection sharing
Your collection page (/u/your-username/) is publicly visible by default so you can share it with friends. You can make it private anytime from your profile settings. Play statistics totals appear on that page too; your notes and email are never shown.
Third parties
- BoardGameGeek — game data and play history are fetched from the BGG API.
- Amazon Web Services — the site is hosted on AWS (US East); emails are sent through AWS SES.
- CDNs — page styling and scripts load from jsDelivr, which sees your IP address like any web request.
Your data is never sold or shared beyond what's needed to run the site.
Deleting your data
Email homerj79@gmail.com and your account and all associated data will be deleted.
Terms of use
- The service is provided as-is, with no uptime or data-durability guarantees — it's a hobby project. Export your collection to CSV anytime as a backup.
- Don't abuse the service (scraping, spam registrations, attempting to access other users' data).
- Accounts that abuse the service may be removed.
